Dear “Tom

You're going to be in a book!

You are now four years old. I am your other grandfather, the one you have just met, but only the once. At the moment, it looks highly unlikely that we will ever see you again, but whatever happens please believe that I love you dearly and always will. You are my flesh and blood, and always will be. We will meet again one day, I am sure. I am writing this daily "blog" to you to make up for the fact that I can't speak to you right now. I hope that one day you will be able to read this.

Yes, I've definitely decided to make a book out of all the letters I've written to you for the past year. There's quite a lot of things in there, a few stories I've told you about Wormy Worm and other creatures, but most of all about you and how we miss not having you around. When you grow up, you'll realise just how easily grown-ups can get into arguments, even over tiny little things, and soemtimes not speak to each other for years.

Your cousin Elaine is having a birthday soon, juts like you. Of course we all have a birthday every year, except the Queen, who has two birthdays every yera - don't ask me why!

Anyway, I had some good news about my new book today. A photograph that I took is going to be on the front cover. I'm really proud. But when I write thi book about you, I won't be able to put any pictures of you in in (even though I have some, copied off your uncle Norman) because I have to keep your identity a secret. You're four years old, you're leading a secret life, and you don't even know about it! (But you will one day, rest assured on that).
