grandad kit
I am Grandad Kit. I have a grandson I have never seen. He is three years old. I am writing these letters/blogs to him every day in the hope that one day he will read them and understand that, although I have never met him, I love him dearly. I have called him Tom - not his real name - and call myself Kit. All names in this blog have been changed, but my thoughts are real and the events I describe are all real. Tom lives in London with his mother (my daughter) and his father. As far as I know, they have a happy family life, and that pleases me. I live in the North of England. I am a writer by trade, and I do tell Tom about the books I am writing.
Family relationships are so often complicated and almost inevitably damaged by divorce, and my family is no different. I had a great relationship with my grandparents, and even as a small boy I looked forward to the time when I would be a grandad and spend time with my own grandchildren. I have three children from my first marriage and two grandchildren; as well as three-year old Tom there is fourteen-year old Elaine, my other daughter's daughter. I have had the privilege of seeing Elaine growing up, although she has little time for her grandad now.
I would like to repair the relationships with my two daughters, but at present there seems little chance of that happening. My son lives nearby and I see him regularly. He is single and has no children. I am happily married to "Nana Ann", my second wife, but Ann has no children of her own and we have had no children together. Members of my family will no doubt criticise me for making my feelings public, even with assumed names, but everything I have written is true and writing this blog is cathartic for me.
I welcome your comments, especially if this blog has resonance for you.
Thank you for reading my blog.
